Fraeylema Folly Festival: a Tribute to the Most Fantastic Phenomenon in Architecture

Do you know the 'folly'? Not yet? No problem! This Saturday you'll find in Slochteren a whole festival devoted to the bon vivant of architecture - something you don't wanna miss!

In the Eighteenth century, large landowners in England started to enrich their enormous parks with useless but fantastic objects (like counterfeit ruins, artificial caves and fake tombs), that came to be known as follies

Now, the wonderfull Fraeylemaborg in Slochteren gave new life to this happy kid from architecture, by realising ten contemporary follies at their country estate - and that's something to be celebrated! This Saturday the follies will be officially opened by means of a grand festival, with music, theatre, folly excursions, a fair, and activities for children. An exceptional setting to get acquinted with the folly - don't miss it!

Fraeylema Folly Festival

Saturday, June 18 at Landgoed Fraeylemaborg Slochteren.

To get in the mood, read the splendid article Peter Dicke wrote for the website Kunstspot about one of the participants, Gerard de Hoop: 'The King of Frames and Follies' - very good, very funny!

Designer of the Season #4 | Lambert Kamps

On June 6, Gert-Jan Soepenberg handed over the title "Designer of the Season” to Lambert Kamps. From early June to late September (we take holidays in July) he can call himself Designer of the Season.

Lambert Kamps is an artist and designer in Groningen. His work, he says, is located at the intersection of art, architecture and design. His work seems to come from another world and sometimes literally an inverted world. Inflatable tents, bridges and installations. Furniture suffering from obesity and cars that are, upside down, in the water and transformed as boats. Just a normal day for Kamps!

While there are many awards that recognise individual accomplishments in design, the World Design Capital (WDC) designation is unique as it aims to focus on the broader essence of design’s impact on urban spaces, economies and citizens.

Interview Atelier Gert-Jan - About his work and craftmanship

For now dutch only: We vroegen Gert Jan Soepenberg een aantal vragen te beantwoorden!

Wie is Gert Jan Soepenberg?
