Designer and friend of House of Design Tjeerd Veenhoven has completed a new projects. The ‘Palm Leather Journals’ will be presented during the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven from the 17th till the 25th of October.
Designer and friend of House of Design Studio Volken de Vlas presented two new designs at this year’s Noorderzon festival. The tough table ‘VETX’ and the unique book cover lamp ‘POKKA’.
From the 4th of September till the 11th of October the CBK presents the first major solo exhibition from Lambert Kamps, a Groninger artist and friend of House of Design.
Friend of House of Design, Tim Vinke, will be present on the North Modern trade show in Copenhagen. There he will be exhibiting his designs from the 13th till the 15th of August.

Currently, Yksi Expo Eindhoven shows the exhibition 'Wishful thinking, wishful doing' by Tjeerd Veenhoven. In this exhibition the Groninger designer shows four of his projects. On the 28th of August, Tjeerd Veenhoven will give a lecture about the four projects during a breakfast session and he will provide a tour of the exhibition.
Friend of House of Design Monique Middelhoek has made a number of new unique products that are for sale in her Etsy shop. It involves a series of summer scarves, knitted with all kinds of yarns.
Friend of House of Design Oscar Venema of OSC'ART created a 3,5 meter tall robot, named Le Cyclop, for the entry area of the Inforversum in Groningen. Le Cyclop is part of the N.A.T. light sculptures. These N.A.T. light sculptures are part of a larger series of artworks, that are on display from the 18th of June in the Inforversum.
After Albert Geertjes, Tjeerd Veenhoven and Gert-Jan Soepenberg it's time for a fourth Designer of the Season. Last Saturday Soepenberg carried his title over to Lambert Kamps.

The Folkingestraat in Groningen is awarded with the title of best shopping street in the Netherlands. This was reason enough for Anne Varekamp and Tim Vinke, two designers, to re-open concept store FOLK. This time no temporary 'pop-up store' as before, but a permanent store.
Friend of House of Design, George van Engelen, exhibits at the Focke Museum in Bremen from the 24th of April until the 14th of June. He has been nominated for the Auguste Papendieck award, and along with the other nominees, you can see his work at the exhibition. The Focke Museum focuses in particular on contemporary artisan art. And as one of the largest regional museums, the Focke museum is also combining historical collections with the latest developments in outstanding exhibitions.
80 workshops and studios located in 'De Biotoop' in Haren, open their doors to the public on Sunday the 17th of May. The studio of friend of House of Design, Jauke van den Brink, is also open for visiting during this day.
The exhibition 'Wishful thinking, Wishful doing' by Tjeerd Veenhoven takes place at Yksi Expo Eindhoven from the 23th of May until the 27th of September.
"The presentation that I designed for this event, shows a part of the creative sector of Groningen. It is a mix of applied art, graphic design and spatial design. It’s a design based on the concept ‘shop in shop’ (presentation in a store) and is designed as separate presentation elements which combines different disciplines.
In name of my own studio I will present a table with the name 'Der Tisch. It is a sturdy-looking table consisting of steel angles and pine beams. For clarity; This design has nothing to do with 'German Gründlichkeit'."

On Thursday, the 12th of February, 2015, the third workshop of the project 'Crafts of the 21st Century' took place. The main goal of the project is to maintain the knowledge about crafts and techniques that has been passed over from generation to generation. Sharing this knowledge creates the possibility to innovate old knowhow into new products of the 21st century. This time the workshop took place at the sheepfold of Balloo, where one of the participants of the project, Marianne Duinkerken, herds heather sheep.
Joke Ruiter from RuitX is fascinated by textile materials, geometric shapes and craftsmanship for almost her whole life. She first got a degree in teaching. After that she studied spatial design, direction autonomously, at the Academy Minerva.

The side panels are perpendicular to the shelves. This enables to see the articles in the cabinet also from the side.
The bookcase is delivered as a flat-pack, and can be assembled without fasteners (screws or glue).
Tjeerd Veenhoven is Designer of the Season. Albert Geertjes handed down this title to him. According to Geertjes, Tjeerd is a designer that constantly makes you think "why didn't I think of this?"
As far as Tjeerd Veenhoven is concerned, being a designer isn't about trendsetting, it's almost a kind of activism; designing to change the world, even if it's only a little.
Veenhoven will hand down the title on Sunday the 15th of February to a third Designer of the Season, chosen by him.During Stand van Stad in Groningen he announces which designer deserves the title.Currently, you can see Tjeerd's work at Object Rotterdam.
1boom is a project where 73 designers and artist show a great variety of products and objects, all made from a single tree. The project started with one oak tree that was felled in 2013. Since then, craftsmen, designers and artists processed the high quality wood, but also the leaves, twigs, bark and sawdust to a rich array of products.
From Thursday the 29th of January until Saturday the 31th of January 2015 the exhibition 'Bouwplan' takes place in the TT Hall in Assen. During the exhibition, trends, innovations and new projects in the field of building, living and sustainability are put in the spotlight. 3D-printing a playable guitar with bioplastic on a regular 3D-printer, that's quite a challenge! House of Design, Studio Marleen Andela and Rikkers Gitaarbouw take up this challenge during Eurosonic from Thursday, the 15th of January to Saturday, the 17th of January. On the last day, the electric guitar will be sold by auction for music education in local villages.

This winter Volken de Vlas organises an exhibition in art-gallery 'Waarkunst' in the small village 't Waar. An exhibition called 'LICHT', dutch for 'light'. The exhibition shows work from 10 artists and designers. Work that is light, feels light, gives light. Participating artists are: Carolijn Slottje, Henk Slomp, Gerard de Hoop, Josse Veen, Maike vd Kooij, Marc van Vliet, Martijn Westphal, Oscar Venema, Peter Meijer and Volken de Vlas.
The entire line will be visible at Eeserhout: from felling a tree to making furniture, kitchen interior, sailboats, cabinets and lamps. Woodwork on order and personal work.

Yesterday we organized an intimate design café in ROOM100. The reason for this café was the ongoing exhibition 'Poul Kjærholm meets Gerard de Hoop'. ROOM100 specializes in designs by Kjærholm. Owner of ROOM100 Josephine Jasperse tells us that designs from Gerard are a perfect fit with the designs from Kjærholm.

Josse Veen wins subsidy after the exhibition during DesignXPO at CBK Groningen. The "Oestergenootschap" has a starter funding for one of the attending designers of the designexpo in the CBK Groningen. Josse has won and may continue her idea.

The object LaundryTree.2 by George van Engelen is part of an exhibition at gallery Majke Hüsstege in 's Hertogenbosch, gallery of the year 2014. The LaundryTree.2 is an easily movable object/coat stand made from ash wood, reused steel planking of Azobe and metal rings. Sizes: ± 0.60 x 0.60 x 1.70 m.
Joost Speet is what you may call a multi-talent. In the beginning he was a drawer and painter, later on developing towards a wayward sculptor. Under the titel of The apARTmetn Design, he designs objects varying from egg stands to dishes and from wooden kitchen ware to small furniture. The T=able and other latest designs by Joost Speet exhibited in art centre Haarlem. There's also in the studio of Joost Speet an overview exposition of paintings and sculptures, prior to the recent designs. His studio is housed in the former Magazijn in Den Oever.
Every first Sunday of the month, from May until September, there is an open studio route in the municipality of Ten Boer. It is a bicycle route passing by art in public space and in about nine studios in Ten Boer, Woltersum, Ten Post, Thesinge and Garmerwolde. Open from 13:00 to 17:00 hrs.

Wout Wessemius vertrekt aanstaande zondag naar Dubai. Daar zal hij persoonlijk zijn unieke ontwerp van Le Nuage bevestigen in de eetkamer van een penthouse.
Het ontwerp is in drie delen gemaakt en vervoerd per schip. Het licht object is namelijk 5,5 meter breed. In de aankomende week wordt het object zodanig aangepast dat het opgehangen kan worden.
At the NieuwbouwXL fair in november 2013, Fenneke Wortelboer of Kleur&Vorm gave some presentations about the emotional experience of living. It was a great succes, therefore she was asked by the organisation to give presentations at the Wonen&Co fair as well. She will do this every day. The caracteristic willows that had to be removed along the river Ijssel in Deventer Holland because of a major riverproject have a new destination. The wood from the willows is transformed into a furnisculpture by sculptor / designer Paul ten Voorde: the alfachair On Friday June 14 the alfachair was officially unveiled and donated to the library of Deventer.
During the event DesignXPO on 25 and 26 May 2013, Alex den Braver will give a presentation about the first car of the last Dutch car factory. It is a car without paint. In his workshop you can see a film about the process of building the first car.
Because we did not have enough floor space at our office and showroom, and were in desperate need of light, the 'Bucketlight' was born.

OntmoetDesign (MeetDesign) is a distinct part of the Wonen&Co fair. In this industrially designed room dozens of shops and designers present surprising products. We aim to inspire visitors and designers to think about the process behind a product. How did it come to exist, where do the materials come from, who made it, how did it get here? In short, the visualisation of the story behind the product.
Together with my colleague Lenny van Onselen, I developed a minor Sustainable Product Design.
The first edition of this minor was open to students Industrial Product Design at the Hague University of applied siences.

Proudly presented by Odesi, again a new design of Kees Marcelis. The Cobra has graceful shapes and stands up proudly. Thanks to this resemblance this furniture is named after the famous snake. The agile shape makes the table easy to combine with other furniture. The table top can float above other pieces like a couch for example.

From 22 June till 23 of July Lambert Kamps present his work during the Midsummer Art Festival in Bathmen (Deventer). A former Garage Building will be the site where he present the Hunepillow, the inflatable furniture and the Fat/Skinny Furniture. A lot of expositions and cultural activities are organized in Bathmen during the period of the Festival.

Roderick Vos and Bert Plantagie found each other again in some surprising designs. Two new couches from Roderick Vos will appear in the stores coming Easter: the Jigsaw and the Stitch. In addition to the earlier Monty couch series, there is now also a Monty armchair. Furthermore, there is a new dining table called Float.
From 17th till 22th of April, Lambert Kamps presents, in collaboration with Tuttobene, a clock consisting of a set of 28 Tube Lamps during the Salone in Milan. The presentation takes place in the Tortona district.
The Baksteen Foundation has been involved working on the promotion of art in the north of the Netherlands for almost 20 years. They have now organised a design contest: Re-Design. Until October the results of the design contest Re-Design are on display in the sculputure garden, gallery and pavilion van Starkenborg. HoD member Kunsteboer participates in this competition. He has made a design of grass, Redesigned with waste material from the gallery itself. Designs made by Kunsteboer can also be seen at the exhibition of Harjo Martinus: Buitengewoon Renaissance.
Last year Tjeerd Veenhoven won the encouragement award of the Material award 2011 from the Doen foundation with his slippers of palm leather. At the moment Tjeerd is in Bangalore (India), to talk about producing for the local market in India and the international market.
The upcoming months work of Lambert Kamps can be seen in Groningen and Helsinki.

The shape of the back has been emphasized, a strong motion between the horizontal and vertical lines arises. The Hopper even surprised myself.'
